Meet Emily! She came in to Vavoom not knowing what to expect and she left her shoot feeling empowered and feeling amazing. Read about her Vavoom experience below! 

Was your experience at Vavoom what you expected?

To be totally honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect at Vavoom, but from the time we stepped into the studio the experience was amazing! I have never felt so beautiful and comfortable with the staff and surroundings. Usually I’m the one that hides in the back of pictures and isn’t the first to post a selfie, so I was a little nervous about being the center of attention. But the hair, make up, and photographer made me feel so comfortable, I enjoyed every minute of it! I didn’t expect to feel so empowered after the shoot was over! I wanted to share my pictures with everyone, and as a plus sized fairly tattooed woman that’s very rare for me! I felt totally comfortable putting on a corset and strutting my stuff for the camera even with other people around.

What happened in the days and weeks after your shoot?

I told EVERYONE about Vavoom and the experience. I talked about how empowering it was, how beautiful I felt and how I knew I had never looked better. I found myself having SO much more confidence in my body and in myself. I can’t wait to put together a book for my fiancé and for myself - I know I will want to look back at the pictures too!

Do you think Vavoom changed you somehow? If so how?

Absolutely! I try to be body positive, but in this day in age, as a plus size woman, it can be hard. This photo shoot and experience has given me so much self-confidence and has made me feel so beautiful I can’t even explain. It has changed the way I look at myself and my body. I felt like I was able to be myself and that was perfect. I don’t have full model like hair, I have a curvy body and I don’t need touch ups to make myself skinnier or with fuller hair - I feel beautiful just the way I am!

“I honestly didn’t know much of what I was getting myself in to when I made my appointment, but my experience at Vavoom was better than I expected! Everyone was professional, kind, considerate, and really talented. I didn’t know much of what I wanted going into my shoot, but that ended up being a non-issue. The ladies that helped me figured it all out and I just made final decisions. It was great, positive, and empowering.

I think I was reminded of the power of my femininity. I think we as modern successful, go get ‘em women are all too often chastised and encouraged to cover up our femininity. I came out of my shoot knowing that just isn’t true. I was reaffirmed in my belief that I can be girlie and smart and sexy and kind all at the same time.”

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! We wanted to share Lanie’s Vavoom experience with you all. She came in because her friends gifted her a Vavoom shoot for her birthday! We love you Lanie!

“My Vavoom experience was a surprise 40th birthday present, given to me by a really supportive group of friends, that I consider the sisters, I never knew I needed. (To my friends and family: Yes, I admitted my true age publicly.) So, my experience was overwhelming in the best way possible! Everyone I encountered at Vavoom that day was amazing and supportive. It was a great day had by all! 

Actually, about and hour after my shoot. My friends and I decided to continue my birthday celebration on the lakefront with some wine and cheese. On our short walk from the car to the lake, an overzealous Chicago bicyclist ran over my foot! I wasn’t going to let that ruin our day, so we continued on. The following Monday, I found out my foot was broken in four places! So, I basically spent the following four months in a super unsexy walking boot!

My Vavoom album represents a moment in time, when my friends went all out to make me feel loved and appreciated. In the end, that’s all that really matters.

Meet Piper-Lori! This fabulous kitten came to our studio in July for a shoot with us for some Bun in the Oven shots! She was as sweet as can be and so fun to work with. This is what she had to say about her Vavoom shoot. 

On her experience

“I had zero expectations. I was very pregnant, at the point where pretty much everything you do has an ‘along for the ride’ feeling. I was looking at my very pregnant friends doing their photos. thinking that’s not for me. why would I want to document this? I knew there was something important about doing it but it just wasn’t like me. If I was going to do it, it could not be in a headdress or in a field of flowers. It just wouldn’t serve me or the personality of my boys. Perhaps if I had a girl I would feel differently.”

On how she felt after her shoot

“I definitely felt a little hipper than when I came. I felt like I had done something fun, that my family will find quirky and memorable, and it made me feel confident I made the right choice for me. I was happy to have documented my pregnancy in a comfortable and relaxed environment that was true to who I was. It was a delightful experience.”

On how her Vavoom shoot changed her

“I was allowed to do things my own way, which is always empowering. I was pushed to the limit. Heather asked me to take a few risks that I am so glad I did. And now I have that moment forever. For my husband, for my baby to see one day. It’s very special. I did something nice for me and for my family. A memory that all of us will have forever! I would like to do it again with my whole family. It’s such a fun, quirky and unique way to capture any time for you or your family.”
